Brianna: Our Future: Crazy Cat Ladies?
Editor's note: We challenged all of our finalists to "Tell us about a current topic that's of importance to your generation."
After a little research, and a lot of asking around I found out a great topic of importance to the Young and Free generation “Y”. So what is on the minds of our young people; the rising cost of living. Things are changing so fast, but it seems our cost of living is exceeding our earnings.

For example: let’s look at the rising cost of a home. Back when our grandparents bought homes, they were about 3 years salary. Seems reasonable. However, now it seems nearly impossible to actually buy a house. The first thing we seem to do when we think about buying a house is getting a mortgage. It literally seems impossible to actually fully buy a house.

This applies to many other things… cars, children, groceries, the list goes on. Even take a look at the number of aunts and uncles you have, versus the number of siblings you have. Or go farther back, how many siblings did your grandparents have? Most likely more than double what you have right now. So what if you wanted to have a big family when you get older? Does this rising cost of living mean that you can’t afford to have a big family one day? What does this mean for our future? A family that consists of a woman and her cat?

Well, hopefully not. We, the generation “Y” , want answers about our future. How are we supposed to support and afford our dreams? We all have hopes and goals like big weddings, cars, families, vacations, homes etc. So – where do we go from here?
“I haven’t heard of anybody who wants to stop living on account of the cost” -Kin Hubbard
And that, Young and Free; is my two cents worth.
