My name is Liam McEachen I am going into my second year as a police foundations student at Lambton College and my passion is skateboarding.

Liam's blog post:

Raise your hand if you have a job or are in school. Keep your hand up if you have a hobby or interest. I am assuming that the majority of you still have your hand raised in the air. Now keep your hand up if you have found a way to work or go to school and still have time to participate in your hobby. If your hand is not already lowered you may do so now. Good job to all of you whose hands were raised the entire time. I’m impressed! In today’s busy lifestyle it is not an easy task to balance the things we have to do with the things we like to do.

Speaking from experience you have to be pretty talented in time management to accomplish this task. But don't  think of me as some perfect guy up on a pedestal because I’m not, I’m far from perfect myself. Growing up I’ve always been really into skateboarding. It has been my passion for about ten years now. When I got my first job it wasn’t easy to balance it with my passion for skateboarding and my schooling. But, after some sound advice from my parents it didn’t seem as difficult. They told me that: “To succeed in life you need to be able to put all the fun stuff aside to get the stuff that needs to be done out of the way. If you do this you will find that you will have a lot more free time than if you were a procrastinator (someone that puts things off and doodles around when they should be working)”. This seemed pretty daunting at the time because I am probably just like the rest of you who want to have fun instead of doing work. My order of importance was something like skateboarding, work, and then school. But this order pretty much reversed itself when I listened to my parents’ advice and little did I know I had twice as much free time to skateboard than before! So trust me, you will find that you will have a lot more free time for your hobbies and interests if you get things done first. And who can really have fun when they are thinking to themselves about a huge essay that is due the next day that they haven’t even started yet anyways? So do yourself a favor and get the annoying things in life out of the way first. You may just find that you are starting to live a happier and less stressful life just because of it. Cheers!

Liam
