Jacqueline current situation:
Hi everyone! My name is Jacqueline Ninaber, I’m 22 and live in Kitchener, Ontario. I’ve just recently graduated from Conestoga College in Public Relations, and as my rap says, I’ve worked in the financial sector for over four years.
During my time at Conestoga College, I had the opportunity to go to Toronto on an internship and work for a Celebrity Event Management and Promotions company as their PR intern. I’ve also done PR and media relations work with a local boxing club (Boxing By Syd), helping them to promote their boxers and run local events.
I love blogging (I have two!) social networking (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and love communicating and connecting with people.
I think being your Young & Free Ontario spokesperson would be an awesome opportunity and I hope you agree I’d be a good fit!
Jacqueline's blog post:
When I was thinking about what the future holds for our generation, I was reminded of a blog I wrote back in December.
If there’s one thing that I have come to learn, it’s that we, as a generation, must learn to build for the future. We have become such a “NOW” generation. We focus on what we are doing now, where we have to go, how much money we can make...today.
You may be asking, “So? What’s wrong with that?”
Well, there’s nothing necessarily “wrong” with focusing on today, but we’ve become so wrapped up that we do not focus enough of our time on the future.
It’s important for us to change our mindset and decide to build for the future. Sure, it may take a little longer, but you are building something that will last. If we decide to build a foundation for our lives now, that foundation will serve as a rock for our future generations to build upon.
Too often we compromise our values, beliefs and ethics because of the immediate return. A rich man once said:
“We spend money that we don’t have, to buy things we don’t need, to impress people we don’t like”. - Will Smith.
Being leaders in the 25-and-under crowd, the one thing that we have is time. Invest it. And when you invest it, remember to invest it in tomorrow and the change you can make for the future: not just for today.
Whether you’re a student, a brick layer, a full-time mom or a marketing exec, we all have one thing in common: we’re spending our time.
So as a leader, remember the importance of how focusing on our actions will affect our future. Not just how it will change today.
Build for YOUR tomorrow.
Cheers.
Jacqueline
