Laurie Ann current situation:

Hey Ontario,

I’m a 20 year old, soon to be 21, who is spending my summer holidays at my parents in Walton.  For the summer I am working at the Huron East Tourism Centre as a Tourism Ambassador.  My position entails representing and promoting the Municipality of Huron East to visitors who stop by.  Throughout the summer I am provided with the opportunity to travel to different events, produce promotional materials, and assist tourists in their travel needs.  When September rolls around, I will be returning to Windsor to continue my education at St. Clair College for Electronics Engineering Technology as a part time student.

In my ‘spare’ time, I enjoy playing sports recreationally and experiencing and learning new things.  When I have the opportunity, I travel.  My favourite adventure was in May 2009, when 5 others and I drove from Windsor to Halifax!  It was amazing!  O the stories!

But most of all my favourite past time is working with an organization called AIESEC! AIESEC is the world’s largest student run, not-for profit organization spanning 107 countries that focuses on leadership development through a global internship program.   In my position as Vice President of Talent Management, I am responsible for managing the logistics and learning curve of the members at the different stages of the AIESEC experience.  BUT the best part is the opportunity to network with other AIESECers!

The only thing that is more exciting then networking across Canada, is networking with other Ontarians and helping to educate and be educated by them!

Laurie Ann's blog post:

SO the Big GAME was on today!  Netherlands vs. Spain!  And as I watched the game it got me thinking.  When I was a kid my dream was to be a famous singer, then shortly after to be a famous soccer player.  But now I am going through school for engineering!?!?!?!?!  Don’t get me wrong I like what I am doing... but

Have you ever noticed that as you grow up the dreams of the fun, cool careers that you know you would love slowly drift away from your mind as you become a zombie reaching for the corporate ladder?

Why do we have to lose sight of our childhood dreams?  Why do they have to be so impractical?

I will tell you why!  Money!  No one can survive without money.  And I mean no one!  Those childhood dreams wouldn’t seem so far away if we didn’t have to worry about getting a good education, to get a good job, and to get a good pay check!  But why do we need those big pay checks to start off with?  To pay off those big student loans of course!  And to buy all those big expensive toys we always dreamed about in our teenage years.  No I’m not trying to say don’t get an education or buy those expensive toys you want.  I am saying follow your dreams but don’t lessen your goals because they seem impractical.  Make the goals practical with SMART choices! Find someone you know and trust who can help you make smart financial choices!  The SMARTest thing you can do for yourself is to start learning how to handle your money at a young age.  Don’t wait till you’re done school or spent all the money you already had.  The sooner you make the choice to LEARN what is a smart choice, the sooner you can afford to live that life style you have always wanted or have that future you always dreamed of!...  Get educated on the proper way to handle your money... Get educated on the SMART choices.  Accomplish your childhood dreams!
