Lara's current situation:
Hello! My name is Lara Skrt. I am currently a grade 12 student at Resurrection Catholic Secondary School here in Kitchener, with my eyes set on graduating in two very short months. I am a very tech-savvy student with a passion for everything promotional. If there is an event or fundraiser at Rez, I am the girl everyone looks to for the details. I am currently apart of our student activities council, as I have been for the past two years, as our technical representative. This job title makes me responsible for getting all the important dates and events out to my fellow peers through various types of media. Whether it’s creating entertaining commercials promoting school wide events, announcements, or changing the billboards outside, it is my job to keep the students of Resurrection informed. I am currently a lifeguard at Forest Heights pool, but I am looking at going into the radio broadcasting profession one day very soon.
Lara's blog post:
What does freedom mean to you? This seven-letter word provokes more excitement with the seventeen to twenty five year old crowd then the word "Christmas". The ability to make your own decisions for yourself, the ability to break through restrictions and boundaries set for us, the ability to exercise one’s right. I get shivers of excitement just thinking about it! Freedom is a big deal, taking our first baby steps on our own away from what our parents want us to do can be very scary, but at the same time exhilarating. Between the ages of seventeen to twenty five we are slowly given the great privilege of freedom, from; what post secondary education we would like to attend, what programs to apply for, what car to buy, what we want to do with our lives, how late we can stay out with friends, who to vote for in this years up coming election, whether or not to be an organ donor, and the list continues. With freedom comes great responsibility thou gh. Like I stated before freedom is a privilege, and should not be taken lightly. The way we approach freedom should be with the awareness of the consequences of negative actions. If we do decide to make a decision that may have not been in our best interest, we no longer answer to mom and dad but rather have to own up to our own actions and suffer the consequences. Over all being given freedom between the ages seventeen to twenty five is great. It’s a time of growing, learning, and finding ourselves now that we no longer have to look to our parents for help with everything. Now that we can make decisions for ourselves, and take full advantage of all that life has to offer, why wouldn’t we?
