[3/3] Winter Vehicle Safety
PART THREE:
WINTER DRIVING TIPS
Now that we've covered how to prep your car for winter and what things to keep in your car in case of emergency, the last part of this three-part series covers tips on driving in the snowy weather in order to avoid emergency.
This comes at a crucial time, because the holiday season brings with it parties and gatherings and frequent travels. Thanks to Transport Canada for the following tips!
(1) Watch the Weather
When planning a trip or before heading out, check the weather forecast and try to avoid snow, high speed winds, blizzards, etc. Take your time, change or delay your plans, don't worry about being late because your friends and family would rather you arrive alive than on time.
(2)See and Be Seen
Sometimes when we're in a rush we just brush off our windshield and hit the road. It is important to clean your car completely of snow- hood, roof, windows and lights. And take the time to fully defrost your windows, you want to be able to see and you need others on the road to see you as well.
(3) Stick With Main Roads
They are more likely to be plowed and salted, and if something should happen to you they will be more busy than the side roads.
(4) No Cruise Control
More like 'no control' when used in rainy and snowy conditions.
(5) Leave Room and Brake Slowly
No tailgating and espeically in the bad weather, and brake slowly in case of failure and/or skidding.
